Have been looking at methods of neatly presenting flickr photos in a portfolio style and have settled with flogr from Mike Carr. Check out the results at www.munnerley.com/flickr.

According to the website, ‘Flogr is a flexible script that displays your flickr photos in a customizable photo gallery you host on your website. If you use flickr but want to have a different look and feel for your photo gallery you may like flogr. See it in action here.’

Exciting news! For the next five months I’ll be working on the INSPIRE building with Rob Fitzgerald and the good people from the Faculty of Education. The building is due for handover in November and I’ll be providing advice and guidance around the development of learning spaces and integration of AV and ICT within the INSPIRE environment.

What is INSPIRE? (INNOVATIVE – SUSTAINABLE – PRACTICAL – IMAGINATIVE – RESEARCH – EDUCATION).

INSPIRE will deliver high level professional training and extension facilities in the areas of advanced ICT pedagogy and practice. It will develop a framework to support creative ICT research and practice amongst educators and students. There will be an expectation that INSPIRE showcases innovation, builds consumable resources and encourages and provides the venue, both physically and digitally, to share best practice. The Centre will provide opportunities for stakeholders to engage with state of the art ICT spaces and facilities.

Augmented reality offers opportunities to expand our concept of learning spaces, to create new dimensions in mobile learning and to increase connectedness of learners in multiple contexts. This 2yr ALTC-funded research project will explore opportunities for multimodal layered learning through augmented reality.

The 2yr project exploring ‘augmented reality’ opportunities in education will begin October 2011 and is hosted at ARstudio.edu.au

Congratulations to the team for the successful funding application to the Australian Learning and Teaching Council(ALTC).

What is AR studio?

ARstudio: Creating Opportunities for Multimodal Layered Learning through Augmented Reality

Augmented reality offers opportunities to expand our concept of learning spaces, to create new dimensions in mobile learning and to increase connectedness of learners in multiple contexts. From simple systems where a tagged artifact reveals hidden images when viewed through a fixed web cam to interactive environments accessible from mobile devices allowing for communication and co-design, the technology for augmented reality is here now. Augmented reality is being embraced in marketing, the visual arts and in the museum sector. There is a real imperative for the education sector to experiment and find ways of using augmented reality to enhance student learning. We propose a two-year project with the primary goals of developing effective uses
of augmented reality in an educational context, together with tools for mapping its uptake and evaluating its effectiveness.

The project will result in four key deliverables:

a collection of developed practice models, illustrating interactive, pedagogically-driven uses of augmented reality in common learning spaces;

tools for mapping the uptake and evaluating the effectiveness of augmented-reality-based learning opportunities;

documentation and guidelines on the construction and implementation of augmented reality in educational contexts; and

a documented augmented-reality history of the project itself, showcasing the potential power of layered reality as a means of providing evocative histories of learning spaces and ideas.

November marks the end of construction and handover of our newly refurbished spaces in building one at University of Canberra. Find out more...

November marks the end of construction and handover of our newly refurbished spaces in building one at University of Canberra.

The staff and student commons consist of formal and informal, technology enabled study spaces for individual students and groups. Whilst the staff commons provides open and collaborative meeting and project incubation spaces for UC staff and partners.

Both areas are located near cafeteria and social spaces which provide the opportunity for staff and students to interact within easy reach of refreshments to fuel their creativity.

The new spaces have plenty of touch down areas which have access to wifi and printing facilities. Bookable spaces are also available for staff and student should you need to schedule some group or project work.

The commons concept at UC was developed by a dynamic group that represented the university community and was lead by the teaching and learning centre and campus planning and development.
