Not only is this the dreaded first blog post, but also the first step in a journey I have deliberated about for far to long. I really don’t know why it took so long to choose a Masters, but it did, so here I am… day 1, post 1…
Why am I here?
To get an MA, Yes… but what I really want is to develop my knowledge and awareness of all things digital, photographic and geographic, bringing focus to my career in education and the arts. By digital I predominantly mean the web environment, however this extends to all manner of digital systems especially within new and emerging convergent technologies. My geographic interests lie in the 3D mapping of our environment, the geo-referencing of real world data in the virtual and simulations of historical artifacts in 3D space. Within the educational space, I would like to explore alternative methods of delivering learning content and move further towards teaching and research in my career, which neatly brings me back to why I am here, to get an MA…
Over the coming months I’m hoping this blog will be where I explore my interests and focus my thoughts. At present I feel like a kid in a candy store, with all these cool new technologies floating around, waiting to be explored.
First comment to the first post! It’s truly the “dreaded first post”. It’s usually just “hi here I am this is the first post and yes I know I should write something funny and earth-shattering but I am just going to write that I will try to write regularly on this blog even though I failed to do so on a gazillion other blogs I started before and I’ve not even used any punctuation yet darn it doh slapping my forehead oh well this was a crappy start hope the rest will be better” sort of thing
Good luck with the site anyway, I’ve subscribed.
You’re at Zayed I see. I worked at ADWC for three years before changing career and moving to Dubai in July.

So there is hope for us all…
I see your working on shufflegazine.com. You seem to have a good handle on the social community here in Dubai. Might have to ask you a few questions along the way…
I was chatting with a lady from the Dubai Executive Council a few weeks back, she surprised me by asking if I was part of the Dubai blog community, she seemed well connected and was pretty stoked about it as a way to increase civic interaction. Yet more hope…
thanks for 1st comment

Best wishes with this Danny.
I had a look at the Bournemouth U website and really liked the creative, informal feel of it.
It’s fascinating for me to see all of this. From my brief review of the program, it looks as if you`ll be doing a combination of “Action Research” and “professional development planning”. The PDP is to be realized through the assembly of evidence and frequent reflection on that evidence (both on your own and with colleagues) to help you realize an eportfolio and forward looking plan.
Ironically, its the same sort of thing that I’m studying in my current module at the Open U. Best of luck with it .. and if I can help in any way, I’ll do what I can.
Cheers.

thanks for the comment… It’s taken me a long time to decided on a programme, I wanted to keep my hand in with the creative side of things. So the MA at Bournemouth is a good match.
I sure will be calling on you for support. What are you doing with Open U, is this the UK one or Canadian?

Danny best of luck with the dreaded post block.
The issue to consider is value and this leads to the question of power and knowledge and that means Foucault! Best of luck! Loving Twitter!
