This ‘taster’ workshop for academic staff on the Graduate Certificate in Tertiary education introduced learning design and design thinking for education. Working in groups of 6-8, attendees developed an icebreaker that might work online for distance education courses. The process used the ‘group worksheet format’ to focus attention on the Discovery, Interpretation, Brainstorming, and Prototyping stages of the process.
Groups shared their final design and voted competitively on the best icebreaker. The competition was intense and with Maltesers/snakes and cola bottles for prizes, the quality of design was high.
